Ukezutsu
(Banner Base)

Ukezutsu (Uke zutsu) is a square-shaped wooden tube in-which the sashimono (samurai war banner) or identification flags are mounted to, when worn with samurai armor.  The ukezutsu would slide through a bracket on the backside of the do, called “Gattari” and then connect into either a receiver called “machiuke” (machi-uke) mounted on the lower back or a pillow like pad called “makura” (mak-ura), then tied securely into place.  The top of the ukezutsu is fitted with a brass cap called a Kuchi-Gane which adds support to the mouth of the base, keeping it from cracking.  Iron Mountain Armory has faithfully reproduced this ukezutsu from an original early Edo Era model to ensure authenticity and historical accuracy.  The sashimono-dake no koto (bamboo banner pole) would hold the sashimono while mounted inside the ukezutsu, or table base stand, both available for purchase separately.
