TTB Tattsuke-Bakama
Traditional Tattsuke Bakama
Our Tattsuke Bakama are a traditional design based on the original tattsuke bakama from the Sengoku Era. These pants, known for their historical accuracy, quality craftsmanship, and economical cost, are perfect for those looking to awaken their warrior spirit with a piece of authentic samurai attire.
Features and Design:
– Authentic Design: Tattsuke Bakama include kyahan (leggings with straps) attached to the hakama below the knee, a design worn by samurai during the Sengoku and Edo Eras (1467 – 1868 A.D.).
– Comfort and Flexibility: These pants feature slits along the thigh and behind the calf, allowing for increased comfort and flexibility. The baggy overhang over the knee, which balloons out and ties securely around the shin, ensures that your suneate (shin armor) sits more securely and prevents the lower pant legs from snagging on brush while marching.
– Era-Specific Materials:
– Muromachi/Sengoku Era: Offers the most traditional wartime robust material of natural hemp linen, ideal for rigorous training and historical reenactments.
– Edo Era: Provides more luxurious, comfortable options such as cotton and art silk, favored during the peaceful Edo period for their comfort and elegance.
Customization and Sizing:
Iron Mountain Armory offers the ability to fully customize your bakama to ensure a perfect fit. This attention to detail makes our Tattsuke Bakama an economical option for those seeking tailored samurai pants. For clear custom sizing details and instructions, click the “?” next to each option.
Versatile Usage:
These traditional Tattsuke Bakama are not only for historical re-enactors and martial artists but are also popular among taiko drummers, yobidashi (sumo match announcers), and modern shinobi. They are featured in many movies, TV series, and documentaries, including the docudrama “Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan” by Netflix & the Smithsonian Channel.
How to Wear:
The bakama are secured around the waist by four himo (straps): two longer himo attached to the front and two shorter himo attached to the rear. The front himo are wrapped around the back and tied in front, under the pant, while the rear himo are wrapped through/around the front himo and tied under the hakama in the front. This method keeps the himo hidden and prevents them from being pulled or snagged during combat or training.
Key Features:
– Traditional Tattsuke-Bakama (samurai pant) design
– Full custom material options
– Custom sizing available
Suggestion:
Consider purchasing one of each era style: the robust Muromachi/Sengoku Era bakama for rigorous training and historical reenactments, and the luxurious Edo Era bakama for comfort and elegance during peaceful times.
Embrace tradition, quality, and historical accuracy with our Tattsuke Bakama, and awaken your warrior spirit with this essential piece of samurai and shinobi attire.
Our skilled katchû-shi (armorers) at the Iron Mountain Armory will need at least 1 to 2 weeks, depending on options selected, and other scheduled orders, for the custom handcrafting of your reproduction samurai item. |

Great all around product as always. I expect nothing but the best from this site and they never disappoint! Of course I am a repeat customer and will always do my shopping here. The materials, pant design and quality is really nice and at about half the price of what you can buy from Japan. And the service is always better than what you can expect from Japan too. Thank you again and keep up the great work!
Good fit.
Personally I would have loved to see the cords to be a bit longer so it would wrap around the body twice. But is is a personal thing and does not impact the hakama quality itself
Very good quality, the material I picked was hemp and is very breathable. Its nice and tailored and doesnt balloon out too much, it is just right. Highly recommend this product.
My pants were comfy and beyond bar with anything else I have worn the vibrant colors and craftsmanship would left even the masters of art in the edo age in envy and I am proud to wear them knowing they made by masters.
