Cotton Yugake (also spelled as Yukake), are gloves worn by samurai under their armor for added protection from the elements and combat. The gloves were thin and often unlined so the samurai could retain maximum sensitivity of touch while wearing them. Traditionally, the samurai would don the right glove first, breaking with the tradition of dressing left to right, only because the ability of the right hand (sword / bow hand) made it more easy to tie the cords of the left hand.
Our excellent Cotton Yugake are handmade using fine Japanese cotton linen. Your purchase comes with the option to print designs, and features a traditional cloth wrist strap for a more secure fit. These beautiful gloves make a great addition to any gosuku, or samurai armor set, clothing set, or to add a little style, comfort and protection to your hands during training sessions.
