Main Armor Color

Select the Color & Finish for your armor set.

For Taisho class armor, we offer an Upgrade option. This option increase the thickness of the steel plating by .2mm, plus tempering! Your armor will be ever more durable, battle ready & a little heavier.

Display Options

Select to upgrade your standard black lacquer Yoroi Bitsu (storage box & stand) to a natural lacquer Deluxe Bitsu with "dove tailed" joints.

Yoroi Bitsu Mon

Choose to add Samurai or Custom Mon (symbol) to your Yoroi Bitsu (armor box). Custom Mon's needs to be e-mailed to us in a mono-color, “Clip-Art” format.(Click through the product images to see different Standard Mon Options.)

*Mock-up (Picture Simulation)

Select to receive a Digital Picture Mockup (Simulation) of your order. We will email you a Mockup for your review before we start crafting your item. You can Approve or request Changes before we start crafting your item.

Helmet Options

Select these options to further customize your Kabuto (helmet).

Kabuto Style

Select the STYLE OF KABUTO (helmet) for your Armor. Please click the "ORDER OPTIONS EXPLAINED" link at the bottom left of the page for more details. To keep the standard style for this model armor leave pre-selected option "As Seen".

*Number of Plates

This option is available for Suji-Bachi Style Helmets, and allows you to chose how many plates are used to craft the “bowl” section of your helmet. The Standard Option is “Simulated” which means the helmet bowl will be crafted from a single sheet of steel and made to look like it is crafted from several pieces.

*Fukigaeshi Style

Select between Small or Large Fukigaeshi (ears) for your kabuto.

*Kabuto Leather Option

Select if you would like leather added to the Visor and Fukigaeshi of your kabuto.

Fukigaeshi Mon

Add a symbol (mon) to the ears (fukigaeshi) of your helmet. This can be a standard mon or custom design you can email us in "Clip-Art" format. (Click through the product images to see different Standard Mon Options.)

Visor Option

Customize the visor of your helmet with embosed eyebrows and/or wrinkles.

Ring Option

Add a Kasa Jirushi no Kan (ring with tassel) to the back of a helmet with an Agemaki Bow (a specially knotted cord).

Horn Style

Select to add Dear Antlers, Water Buffalo Horns, Wooden Horns or Waki-Date (Flat Wooden Horns) to your kabuto.

Menpo Style

Select your choice of face armor available for your yoroi. Standard and Ressei Menpo option will give you nose and mustache options. Henpo and Hoate are without nose option. For more detailed images, please review the Menpo (Mask) category.

Mustache Style

Add character to your armor by selecting a custom mustache option.(This option is only available with certain mask / nose styles.)

Beard Style

Add character to your Henpo or Hoate with a Goatee Beard. Cut the beard to your desired length.

Options to further customize you Samurai Armor's Do (cuirass).

Shoulder Padding

Select the material color used for your shoulder padding (Tate-Eri).

Do Mon

Select the Mon (symbol) to be painted on the front of your Dō (chest plate).(Option Not Available with Suna finish)

Do Chest Ring

Select to add 1 or 2 Chest Rings (Saihai no kan & Tenugui no kan) to your Dō, used to display tassels or hold a saihai or gunbai. (Select option from the perspective of wearing the armor)

Do Holding Rings

Add 1 or 2 WAIST RINGS (holding rings) to either side of your Dō (chest plate), used to hold bags, tie a weapon, Gunbai and/or your Sarashi in place. We recommend adding both if you are training in your armor. (Select option from the perspective of wearing the armor)

Add Banner Holder

Add a Banner Holder (Machi-Uke) to the back of your Taisho Dō (chest armor) so you can attach a Sashimono (war banner) to your armor set. (Add Optional Wooden Banner Base)

Kusazuri Options

This option offers to make your kuzazuri (skirt plate) detachable / interchangeable. Commonly used in the past for fast repair / replacement of the kuzazuri, or removable for fast and quiet movement of troops.

Tekko no Suemon

Select to add a Tekko no Suemon (Brass Engraved Emblem on the back of the hand).

Sizing Options

The Sizing Options for our Gashira Armors. Some options that are not standard may entail extra costs.

Chest Circumference

This option changes the girth size of your Dō (chest armor). While inhaling deeply, have an assistant wrap the tape measure under your armpits around the largest part of your chest. In the back, you want the tape measure to wrap across your shoulder blades. The tape measure should be snug, but not tight.

Waist Circumference

This option is for the waist circumference of the Dō (chest armor). 5: Place a tape measure on your navel (belly button) and straight around your waist, finishing at your navel. The tape measure should be snug, but not tight. Please Note: Sizing is for REFERENCE ONLY and may not reflect the final product. Please read the FAQs for more details.

Height Options

Adjust the armor to your Height. Standard sizing is 5' 8" (175 CM). Select the option closest to your actual height. If unsure, select 1 size smaller and enter your actual size in the order comments.

Weight Options

Please select the option that is closest to your weight or next weight level greater, so our armorers can better fit your armor to your body size.

The Accessory Options for our Samurai Dō's, some of which may incur additional charges. If you require further customization besides what is offered here, please contact us.

Sarashi Belt

Add a long cloth belt used to hold your dō firmly in place for a more comfortable with and to hold weapons and other accessories to your waist.

Waraji Sandals

Add Traditional Straw Sandals to your order. Select 1 size smaller.

Tabi Socks

Add a pair of black cotton Tabi Socks to your order (1 size fits most)

Extra Design Options

Gashira (Officer): Expertly handmade from a mixture of quality traditional and modern materials, as well as some modern crafting process. This class of armor is crafted with a good attention to detail. Crafting Time: 20 to 35 Days. Materials Used: Bowl style kabuto, steel construction, traditional brocade, hemp, quality cotton, brass, copper fittings with genuine leather & and some synthetic materials might be used. (materials may differ depending on model) Our “Gashira Class” yoroi represents the next level up from our “Kachi Class.” Each suit is meticulously handcrafted by our experienced katchû-shi (armor smiths) at Iron Mountain Armory. These artisans pour their warrior spirit into every piece, using quality materials and traditional crafting methods, complemented by modern techniques, tools, and design advancements. Like the Taisho Class, each suit is heavily researched and crafted with great care for historical accuracy. The principal difference between the Gashira and Taisho classes is that the Gashira Class is crafted with a practical bowl-style kabuto (simulated laminate) and some machine-stamped parts. The Gashira Class also features subtle modern enhancements, such as grommets and spot welding, making the armor more robust and easier to maintain. Our Gashira Class samurai armor is made for collectors, exhibitions, re-enactors, and martial artists who desire an authentic “Gendai” samurai suit of armor without the additional expenses associated with the more traditional design and handcrafting methods of our Taisho Class. The Gashira Class features a more traditional Gendai design compared to the Kachi Class and includes features such as real animal hair, genuine leather, a removable or interchangeable nose, brass fittings, shoulder padding with kikko (armor plating), traditional butted mail, opposable thumbs, leg/waist support on haidate, extra materials, fittings, riveting, grommets, additional lacing options, and an included armor storage/display box (yoroi bitsu) with stand. The attention to detail is a significant step up from the Kachi Class. However, due to the handcrafted nature of many parts, there may be some blemishes that pass through our QC process. Although we strive to avoid and correct these blemishes, they are a natural occurrence in handcrafting. Taisho Class suits will have fewer, if any, of these blemishes due to the high standards and meticulous review processes.

Description

Daku Akuma Taisho were samurai commanders that would lead their kachi and gashira samurai straight into the lines of the enemy. Once the ashigaru engaged their foe in the traditional manner, the Taisho and their Gashira would break ranks, storming through the lines, catching their enemy off guard. Through this “surprise attack” and superior fighting skills given to them by the Daku Akuma (dark demon), they would cut their way through the opposing ashigaru. This would cause them to divide and then easily swallowed up by the darkness of the pursuing ashigaru. They were also known for taunting enemy samurai in battle. The objective was to draw them out in single combat where their ashigaru could cut them off from support while the Daku Akuma Gashira and Taisho samurai would finish them off. This was part of the new fighting tactic samurai started to be used in the early 16th century.

Our artisan taisho katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) will take great care in crafting this taisho samurai armor set. They will use more traditional crafting methods and design than the gashira samurai yoroi. It also features Kiritsuke Iyozane (simulated scale), sode (shoulder guards) and kusazari (defensive skirt plating). They are happy to customize your order by sizing it for your unique dimensions. They can also craft a different style of helmet, mask or even shin style for you.

I was absolutely stunned by this armor once I received it. The fabric work (I got the S4) was phenomenal and received many compliments. You can feel when you have it on that it’s real armor, but it doesn’t weigh you down like you might think. The craftsmanship on all the various pieces was great as well, and I was surprised at the level of wearer utility each piece provided, typically only involving a couple strings to tie or a hook to latch on to, like the do for example.

Also worthy of mention was the excellent customer service. I planned out my purchase for months and the Samurai Armor team was there for every little question I had about the purchase and the armor itself, even sending me pictures of various fabrics and options.

As a practitioner of traditional Japanese martial arts, and as someone who has always been fascinated with samurai armor and culture, I highly recommend going with Samurai Armor and this yoroi in particular. I will proudly wear and display my yoroi for many years to come!

When I got my armor I was blown away. I had to put it on and felt how great it fit my body and how high quality it is. The armor is admired by every one of my guests and is always a great eye-catcher.

I came across Iron Mountain Armory through the videos of a Youtuber. At first I was a little skeptical, but this quickly ended when I start writing with them. The customer service is excellent! I am a person who always asks a lot to be sure. All of my questions were always answered in detail the next day. Also, thanks to the great customer service, all my changes were implemented so that there is nothing to complain about. They always sent me pictures to clarify everything. Also when there was a misunderstanding, they helped to resolve it quickly and in a friendly manner.

I can recommend the armor to anyone who is interested in samurai armor and wants something high quality for a good price.

The armor will be a proud part of the family for years to come
