Meditation Mala Beads (Large Wooden) are used to help focus one’s mind on meditation or to count mantras. Mala is a Sanskrit word meaning “meditation garland”. Mala beads are used for a special style of meditation called “Japa” which means “to recite”. They are very similar to Christian rosary beads and therefore commonly referred to as “prayer beads”. Mala beads appeared around the 8th century in India, used to assist in meditation and prayers as well as the practice of self-awareness. As Buddhism spread to Japan, so did the mala beads. Warrior Buddhist Monks and Buddhist Samurai alike would wear the larger mala beads with or without their yoroi (samurai armor).
Iron Mountain Armory is happy to offer these very hard to find Buddhist prayer beads for our samurai re-enactors, cosplay, larp and those sharing a passion for samurai culture. These make great additions to your samurai cosplay, larp kit or to display with your samurai armor set.
