Toyotomi Hideyoshi Samurai Armor set is of course custom handcrafted for the great Japanese samurai and Daimyo (feudal lord) of the late Sengoku era (warring states), which was regarded as the second “Great Unifier” of Japan. According to tradition, Hideyoshi was the son of an ashigaru (foot soldier) who had no surname, and was given the childhood name Hiyoshi-maru (日吉丸) (“Bounty of the Sun”). Legend says, his father awoken to a bright light, turning night into day. A voice from the light explain that his son would bring light, peace and unity to Japan. This story inspired Hideyoshi’s famous toukan style kabuto which features a golden sunburst of sunshine, emerging from the back, which shines out over Japan. Toyotomi Hideyoshi grew up as an ashigaru in the Oda clan and quickly distinguished himself in battle, rising up to the ranks and becoming a samurai retainer for Oda Nobunaga (the most powerful Daimyo of this time). Hideyoshi’s success and status preceded him as he succeeded Nobunaga after his death, fulfilling Nobunaga’s ambition and his father’s prophecy of ending the Sengoku era, bringing peace and unity to Japan.
