Nathan Algren is the fictional U.S. Army captain character that Tom Cruise portrayed in the movie “The Last Samurai”. As most are familiar, Nathan Algren was taken as a prisoner of war by the samurai leader “Katsumoto” (Ken Watanabe). The character “Katsumoto” is believed to portray the life of legendary Saigo Takamori, who led a small band of samurai warriors against the Japanese imperial government. Although the “The Last Samurai” movie is based off of actual events, it is largely fictional, much like the crafting of the plastic armor used for the filming. Iron Mountain Armory katchû-shi (Japanese armorer) value tradition and authenticity, which is why we craft our samurai armor with steel, leather, brass, copper and hemp.
This first but certainly not the last samurai armor set in the Iron Mountain Armory Daimyo Class features a handcrafted 32 ken suji-bachi kabuto with so-fukurin (32 plate helmet with brass edging). The armor itself is adorned in copper and brass decorations, making this unique samurai armor set well embellished for any Daimyo.
