Karuta Tatami Zukin ( or Karuta Gane Zukin) is a armored hood worn by samurai. The armor hood is meticulously fashioned from karuta (rectangular steel plates) then fastened together with kusari (chain-links). The karuta Tatami Zukin is then sewn to a linen zukin (hood). This makes it a practical, yet comfortable head protection, much like a European coif. Because it was crafted using karuta linked by kusari, this tatami kabuto can be folded easily and stored for transport. The Karuta Tatami Zukin armor, worn by high ranking samurai, was a more elaborate, ornate and offered better protection.
Handcrafted by the katchu (armorers) of Iron Mountain Armory. Options are offered to make your karuta gane zukin custom to your needs. This traditional design is full sized and fully functional.
