Tanko Gashira Kabuto was part of the first style of iron armor that appeared in Japan during the 4th century (Heian Era). This armor was worn by foot soldiers and had a distinctive lamellar (layered) construction. The Tanko Kabuto was the first helmet ever made using laminated armor plating style. It was joined by rivets and lace. The Tanko Gashira Armor was the base armor set which samurai and modern body armor would later be based on over the next thousand years.
