*Crest Options

Select to change, customize or remove the front crest (maedate) on the helmet. You can select a standard brass mon (symbol), your own custom mon / logo or a wooden or brass design. *# of Simulated Plates

This option is available for Suji-Bachi Style Helmets, and allows you to chose how many plates are used to craft the “bowl” section of your helmet. The Standard Option is “Simulated” which means the helmet bowl will be crafted from a single sheet of steel and made to look like it is crafted from several pieces.

*Shikoro / Tare Plate Style

Select the style of Shikoro and Tare plating you would like for your kabuto and menpo

*Kabuto Color

Select the Color & Finish for your kabuto (top section of helmet).

*Shikoro Color

Select the Color & Finish for your Shikoro (Neck Guard). (You can change the BOTTOM PLATE using "Advanced Custom Options" below.)

*Main Lace Color

Select the Main Lace Color (odoshi) you would like for your Shikoro (neck) and Tare (throat) guard to be. (You can customize your lace patterns by using the "Advanced Custom Options" below.)

*Rivet Option

Select if you would like your helmet to be smooth or have raised rivets.

*Temper Armor Plates

Select to Heat Temper your steel armor plates to Add more toughness. Your armor will be heated to 700 degrees, making it more resilient and less likely to dent or break upon hard impacts. Best for Martial Arts Training, LARP & SCA Sports.

*Mockup (Picture Simulation)

Select to receive a Digital Picture Mockup (Simulation) of your order. We will email you a Mockup for your review before we start crafting your item. You can Approve or request Changes before we start crafting your item.

Menpo Options

Menpo Style

Select your choice of face armor available for your yoroi. Standard and Ressei Menpo option will give you nose and mustache options. Henpo and Hoate are without nose option.

Menpo Color

Select the Color & Finish of your Menpo (Face Armor).

Tare Color

Select the main Color and Finish you want your menpo's Tare (Throat guard). You can make the bottom plate a different color by using the "Advanced Custom Options" below.

Mustache Style

Add character to your armor by selecting a custom mustache option.(This option is only available with certain mask / nose styles.)

Nose Style

Add more character to your armor set by changing the nose to a Tengu (bird's) nose.

Beard Options

Add character to your Henpo or Hoate with a Goatee Beard. Cut the beard to your desired length.

Ornamental Options

Leather Options

Add Leather or EGAWA (printed leather) to the visor and ears of your helmet.
If you would prefer to have leather / egawa on the ears or visor only, please request in it in the Order Notes while checking out.

*Kawa Fukurin

Select the Trim Material around the edge of the Visor and Fukigaeshi.
Required if EGAWA is selected.

*Trim Options

Select this option to add a metal trim (fukurin) around the outer edges of your helmet. This option might differ depending on model and/or different options selected.

Visor Options

Customize the visor of your helmet with embosed eyebrows and/or wrinkles.

Ring Option

Add a Kasa Jirushi no Kan (ring with tassel) to the back of a helmet with an Agemaki Bow (a specially knotted cord).

Fukigaeshi Mons

Add a symbol (mon) to the ears (fukigaeshi) of your helmet. This can be a standard mon or custom design you can email us in "Clip-Art" format. (Click through the product images to see different Standard Mon Options.)

Ponytail Options

Add a horse or yak ponytail to the top of your helmet. This option might differ depending on model and/or different options selected.

Antler & Horns

Select to add Dear Antlers, Water Buffalo Horns, Wooden Horns or Waki-Date (Flat Wooden Horns) to your kabuto.

Display Options

Select to receive your kabuto with the Standard, Deluxe or Iki-Nigyo.

Shikoro Horizontal Lace

Select the Lace Color along the lower Horizontal Hanging Plates of the Shikoro (neck) and/or Tare (throat).

Shikoro Vertical Lace

This option changes the color lace (odoshi) is used along the outer bottom edge of the neck guard

Shikoro Mimi-Ito Lace

Add an extra row of lacing to your shikoro (neck guard) for an addtional cost. If left blank it may match your MAIN LACE option selected above.

Tare Bottom Plate

Select the Color & Finish of your Tare Bottom Plate (Suso no ita).

Description

Hachi Goshozan is an economical hachi “bowl” kabuto crafted by the Iron Mountain Armory. Traditionally known as “Ichi Mai-bari Suji-fuse Kabuto” the hachi is crafted from a single piece of steel in the shape of a Goshozan kabuto. It is then decorated with suji (ribs) to imitate the raised ridges on a suji-bachi (laminated bowl) and byo toji (decorative rivets). You can request raised suji which will be simulated with copper tubing or flat suji (as seen in the picture) with metal stirps. When finished the Hachi Goshozan kabuto appears to be very similar to a Suji-Bachi kabuto but much more economical. This style of kabuto features a tôsei-mabisashi āchi (Arched Modern Visor), which became the style in the late Sengoku era (waring state).

Ichi Mai-bari Suji-fuse Kabuto originally appeared during the Heian period (794 ~1185) but was less protective and more decorative than the multi plated suji-bachi kabuto. Because of this it lost popularity until the Edo period (1603 ~ 1868), when armor became more decorative over functional.

The gashira katchû-shi (armorer) make the shikoro in the traditional method of hand cutting lames of steel, hammering, polishing, painting and finally hand lacing a quality cotton odoshi, using the color of your choice. The ukebari (helmet lining) of the Hachi Goshozan is then carefully fitted to the inside of the hachi (bowl of helmet) to finish the kabuto. Please feel free to select your choice of mengu (facial armor).

Please note the product images shows a simulated flat 8 ken (plate) Hachi-Goshozan kabuto with all options. You can request more simulated plates. Optional byo-toji (raised rivets) can be added to the hachi. Mayu (embossed eye brows) can be added to the visor, giving your Hachi Gozhozan a more unique look. For an extra touch of class, a copper fukurin (edging) can be added as well. Your clan pride be displayed by selecting to add your clan mon (heraldic symbol) to the maedate (crest) and Sueomon (small heraldic symbols) or select “custom” to add your own symbol. To receive your kabuto as pictured, you will need to enable these options when ordering. You can upgrade to real plating, making this into a full Goshozan Hari-Bachi Kabuto via the options.

Great choice for a very well-made Kabuto. The simulated plates look real and the rivets give it an impressive look. I can tell there was an eye for detail when crafting it. I recommend Iron Mountain Armory 100%. Not only was I impressed with the products but the customer service was on point. All the advice received and questions answered before my purchase helped me a great deal before I placed my order.
