Edo Haramaki Gusoku is a Daimyo class reproduction of an Edo era samurai armor set. This haramaki is crafted by the highly skilled katchû-shi (Japanese armorer) of the Iron Mountain Armory, with great passion and pride. This haramaki is an early 14th century wrap around design, so the Do (cuirass) wraps around the torso of the warrior and ties closed in the back. The back section has a vertical opening to allow the warrior to wiggle into the armor easier. It is this special haramaki design, with vertical opening, which allowed warriors of different body shapes to wear the armor comfortably without distorting the shape of the armor. The resulting opening wasn’t seen as an issue because it was then covered by the sei-ita (back board). This backboard hangs from the watagami (shoulder straps) and ties to the bottom section of the do. During the Edo Era, this style of samurai armor became popular once again. However, it is said that many of the samurai of this peaceful time, refereed to the back board as the okubyo-no-ita or ‘cowards plate’, suggesting it was used by a warrior that might flee combat.
This unique samurai armor design reflects the classical Sengoku era (warring state), with large kabuto (helmet) and o-sode (large shoulder shields). The suji-bachi kabuto (multi-plated helmet) will be crafted with your choice of ken (plates) to make up the hachi (bowl) of your kabuto. The lacing pattern options are endless, so you can select from the standard pattern seen in our product images or email us with your ideas and we will do our best to exceed your expectations. You can also select from the various material patterns offered specially for Daimyo class armor sets.

Excellent quality and all my customisations were incorporated perfectly. Its an outstanding piece, every time I look at it I see something new. I was very nervous spending this amount of money on a company I had never used before, but it worked out very well. No difference in quality compared to my other armour which is from a Japanese manufacturer.
