Our skilled katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) here at Iron Mountain Armory have crafted this reproduction Taisho class samurai armor set in honor of the Arima Clan. The Arima Clan were descended from Fujiwara Sumitomo. They were established in the 12th century by Arima Tsunezumi.
The Arima Clan, whose name means “has horse” were first known for their cavalry offense. Their military prowess grew even stronger with the arrival of the Portuguese. Due to heavy influence by Christian missionaries, and as a result of his “Christianization”, the Arima Clan received supplies and weapons from the Portuguese, which strengthened the clan even further. They would play a small but interracial part in the final unification of Japan by siding with Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The Taisho (Commander) Samurai would take their commands directly from their Daimyo and orchestrate their Arima Clan Gashira samurai, who would then lead their subordinate Arima Kachi Samurai into combat.
Our artisan katchû-shi will hand craft this traditional “Tosei Byo-toji Yokohagi Okegawa Dō” (Two Section Cuirass with Riveted Horizontal Plating joined by a Pin Hinge) by hand, using the most traditional methods with minimal use of modern tools or materials. These fine Arima Clan Taisho quality suits are among some of the most historically accurate suits made today. This particular yoroi features a traditionally crafted 5 plate Hineno Zunari Bachi Kabuto (helmet), with Kiritsuke Iyozane (simulated scale) sode (shoulder guards) and kusazari (defensive skirt plating). This design style was very common towards the end of the Sengoku Era. They are happy to customize the style of kabuto (helmet), menpō (face mask) and suneate (shin guards). The standard paint finish of the Arima Samurai Armor is suna (sand) texture.
