Description

Akoda-Nari Zunari Kabuto are crafted exactly like the Hineno Zunari but with the central plate sloping inward, along the top. This inward slope of the top center plate is believed to be more fashion of western Japan during the end of the Sengoku era (warring state) and doesn’t detract from the robust design.  The Taisho katchû-shi (armor smith) of Iron Mountain Armory has crafted this beautiful, traditional Akoda-Nari Zunari Kabuto in all of its splender. It was formed by hand cutting and riveting 3 different plates to create the hachi (inner bowl of the helmet) section of the kabuto and then hand cut each plate for the shikoro (neck guard).   The hineno-jikoro style shikoro is then hand laced in odoshi sugake (simple hang lace), with all the care and attention to detail expected from a Taisho quality yoroi.  The ukebari (helmet lining) is then carefully fitted to the inside of the hachi to finish the kabuto. The mabisashi (visor) is left without a post, to mount a maedate (crest). This feature was often lacking in zunari kabuto of this time for lower ranking samurai, as the maedate was an extra expense and would often break in combat.

You can  also order your Akoda-Nari Zunari Kabuto with your preference of mengu (facial armor), menpo (half face with nose) or hanbo (lower face). A hanbo was commonly used during the Sengoku era as it provided acquitted protection without impeding sight or breathing.
