Description

Goruden Hotoke Gusoku (Golden Buddha Belly Samurai Armor) maybe a gendai yoroi (modern samurai armor) crafted for a Gashira, but is certainly stately enough for a Daimyo! The hotoke do (smooth cuirass) refers to the roundness of the chest and references to the smooth, round belly of the Buddhist statues “Buddha Belly”.  Hotoke gusoku were popular through the Momoyama and Edo Period (16th – 19th Century)The nimai-do (2 piece chest armor) is handcrafted with a smooth finish, so not to show the lames underneath.  The Goruden Hotoke Gusoku features copper trimmed plating along the edging of the carefully cut and curved armor plates, known as “fukurin“.  The hachi kabuto features horse tail hair to show the vitality of the samurai warrior wearing the armor.

This is a striking one of a kind style of samurai yoroi that the experienced katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) here at Iron Mountain Armory will craft using traditional designs with the implementation of a few modern techniques and tools. Iron Mountain Armory offers the options to change the style of the kabuto (helmet), menpo (mask)and suneate (shins), as well as a few other options listed on this page.  If you would like further customization options, please feel free to contact us.
