Okegawa Kachi Samurai Armor is our first and most popular reproduction yoroi in our Kachi Samurai Armor series. Our apprentice katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) here at Iron Mountain Armory will craft your yoroi using one of the most iconic armor designs called “Tosei Yokohagi Okegawa Ni-Mai Do” which loosely translates to a “Modern two Section Cuirass with Horizontal Plating Joined by a Pin Hinge.” Tosei, is a term used to describe “modern” style of samurai armor. Modern is defined as being post 1520 AD. It was during this period that the katchû-shi started using ito-mono plating, which are long single plates, overlapped and riveted or laced together, instead of the thousands of single iron “scale” plates, or kozan. This made the crafting of the armor faster and more efficient, as well as more durable in the evolving weapons and tactics of war introduced by the arrival of the Europeans.
The Okegawa Ni-Mai Do became one of the most common armor designs to be used during the last 100 years of the Sengoku Era. This Do (chest armor), is crafted from overlapping individual metal strips (lames) that are smoothed over, then painted and laced with your choice of color. The kabuto (helmet), menpo (mask) and suneate (shin) armor style can be changed upon your request, via the Extra Options. A display box which comes with a stand, can also be ordered to proudly show-off your yoroi set.

The armor is top notch and very nice overall. Only issue I had was one of the rope loops for the shoulder pieces came off very easy. I was able to repair it in about 15 minutes.
The kachi class of armour is the entry level into samurai armour ownership and I have to say it is absolutely fantastic!
I had a budget to work to and wanted value for money and this armour surpassed all of my expectations,I opted to have the armour with custom sizing too.
It is very well made and is a work of art, being beautifully crafted and is a wonderful thing to own and get enjoyment from.
some reviews often state going up a class to gashira but I have to say if you want to own your very own samurai armour and you are on a budget you will not be disappointed with a kachi class suit, they are remarkable value for money and in my humble opinion are in no way a “budget” suit.
My armour now sits proudly on display in my home and I get immense pleasure from owning, wearing and admiring it.
Great Armor But….
This is my very first suit of armor I’ve ever owned, so I never really knew what to expect. When I received the armor, I began to put it on. At first it was heavy, almost like two sacks of potatoes. However I was surprised to how quickly I endured and got used to the weight of the armor. It fits very well, the sleeves fit fine, the shin guards are nice. There are a few problems with it which is why I don’t completely give it 5 stars. First problem is the ‘Do’, or the chest piece. On your website I see the suit of armor with the rings on the chest piece, although mine didn’t have those rings. Also, there is a problem with the Menpo. Your pictures online provide photographic references of the iron hooks attached to the menpo, although I didn’t get any, making it more difficult for me to put it on. Those are my complaints, with my product not matching up to the pictures you’ve provided.
I am greatly appreciative and excited about my suit and the rest of the items I ordered. My armor suit arrived in perfect shape, no scuffs or scratches. I am also really pleased with the customer service received. The timing for both crafting and shipping was exactly as I was promised throughout the whole process. I would for sure recommend this great company to my friends and students at any time. Top-quality products and services.
Order the suit and use it for LARP. I had to add a little padding to the arms but other than that, the armor fits great and holds up well. A few scuffs from tumbling but other than that it is great.
